Tyler Perry and Lionsgate have ended their long production deal after nine years of working together.
The Wrap reports that Perry will still be linked to Lionsgate because they are distributing his newest movie, The Single Moms Club, which arrives in theaters on March 14.
Lionsgate has ended its long production deal with Perry's production company, 34th Street Films. Perry's association with Lionsgate started nine years ago when Perry worked with Lionsgate on the release of his 2005 film, Diary of a Mad Black Woman and every year since Lionsgate has released at least one or two of Perry's films each year.
Variety details how Perry has been on a first-look deal with Lionsgate for the last six years and that the decision to end the deal was a mutual choice for both. Perry is now a partner with Oprah Winfrey and her cable network, OWN. Perry’s shows The Have and the Have Nots, For Better or Worse and Love Thy Neighbor have become hugely successful shows for OWN.
While Perry was associated with Lionsgate he released many films, including The Family That Preys, Madea Goes to Jail,Madea’s Family Reunion, Daddy’s Little Girls and many others. Perry's latest film released in partnership with Lionsgate was A Madea Christmas, which has earned $52.5 million domestically following its premiere back in December.
