Defensive tackle Vince Wilfork has reportedly asked the New England Patriots to release him. Wilfork has spent his entire 10-year career with the team.
The news was reported on Twitter by NFL.com insider Ian Rappaport. He wrote that his sources told him that Wilfork requested to be released by the team. Rappaport added that the team and Wilfork had not talked about his contract. They discussed restructuring, but that did not go far.

NFL.com reports that Wilfork will be turning 33 this November and he was due $7.5 million from the team in 2014. He had signed a five-year contract in 2010.
According to Boston.com, Wilfork’s career began in 2004 and was on five Pro Bowl teams. He became a captain in 2008 and was on the team that won Super Bowl XXXIX.
NFL.com does report that Wilfork would like to keep playing, so there’s a chance he’ll end up somewhere.
So far, the Patriots’ big move of free agency has been to sign Darrelle Revis.
