No. 12 Virginia beat No. 4 Syracuse 75-56 Saturday afternoon in Charlottesville. This win allowed Virginia to clinch its first outright ACC regular season title since 1981.
Virginia sophomore Malcolm Brogdon was the star of the show. Brogdon had 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. The game was back and forth and Syracuse lead 28-27 going into halftime, but Virginia managed to get the win.
Both teams were ready for the game but Virginia’s solid offense got it done. According to the washingtonpost Virginia shot 57.7 percent in the second half and 50 percent for the game.
The Cavaliers improved to an impressive 16-1 in the ACC. According to the bleacherreport after the game Syracuse head coach, Jim Boeheim, complemented their opponents saying, “Virginia has played, by far, the best of anybody in our league consistently the whole year. . . . They don’t have any weaknesses at all.”
Virginia’s next game is March 9 at Maryland.
