AMC's The Walking Dead finale set a new record for ratings for the drama's closing episodes, and only barely missed out on Sunday's episode being the most-watched episode yet.
The fourth season's closing episode drew 15.7 million viewers, a 17 percent increase over last week's episode, reports Variety. That number is also a 26 percent improvement over the third season finale.
The finale also averaged a whopping 8.0 in the advertiser-important 18-49 demographic, which is a 20 percent jump from the penultimate episode last week. That number, which equals 10.2 million viewers, easily toppled any other show on that night, with the second-most watched show being Resurrection on ABC, which got a 2.3 in the demo.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dead fell only 400,000 viewers shy of the show's highest ratings, which came on the fourth season's premiere episode.
The finale is now the third most-watched episode of the series, behind the fourth season premiere and midseason finale.
Talking Dead also did well after the end of Walking Dead for AMC. The talk show averaged 7.3 million viewers and 4.7 million in the desired demographic.
