Growing up in the mid-200’s, teenagers watched Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel every week. The story was of the coolest chick in California that was a fashionable 15-year-old high school student by day and an awesome pop star by night. With just the change of a wig, Miley turned into Hannah and nobody had any idea the two were the same.
Fast-forward six years into the future and now Miley has shed the long blonde wig – and her curly, long brown hair - for her current, memorable and shorter do. Short, buzzed platinum look that looks somewhat like Draco Malfoy from Harry Potter. Some are starting to think that the difference in hairstyle may have changed the person behind the hair as well.
The 21-year-old’s newest album, Bangerz, is a great one. Songs like “Adore You,” “Wrecking Ball” and party anthem, “We Can’t Stop,” are catchy and great radio plays. They show off this young woman’s talented vocal range and her ability to go from country to pop to hip-hop genres all in a three-minute span.
But because of Cyrus’ publicity tactics, nobody can take her seriously especially after her performance at last years MTV VMA’s when she embarrassingly twerked against “Blurred Lines” singer, Robin Thicke.
It was in February, however, when Cyrus said that her debuting of the Bangerz Tour wouldn’t be highly publicized at all.
Well, that didn’t take long.
She initially said she didn’t want her twerking stunts to define her tour and she claimed that it was going to be full of “art.” But after months of speculation, we’ve seen Cyrus do everything from take selfies on stage, mention a dozen drug references, motor boat a dancer and dance in her underwear, literally.
So why did she initially come out to us saying that everything was going to be strictly about the music? With a record like Bangerz it should be and she doesn’t need all of this garbage. Of course it’s hysterical to watch and definitely gossip worthy but it gets old real quick.
When Miley took away the good-girl Miley wig, she ended up changing herself entirely. This new hairstyle is daring and bold but it shows a new Cyrus that changes what she was originally known as… a typical former child star.
Cyrus was part of the Disney kid crowd – the child stars that grew up in the spotlight and eventually broke free of the “good girl” or “good boy” images. Britney Spears, Dylan Sprouse, Christina Aguilera, Vanessa Hudgens and Lindsay Lohan all shed their clothes, were found with bad substances or just ended up looking a little more on the scandalous side.
We get it. Disney stars don’t want to be seen as little kids forever. But there’s a fine line between getting publicity to promote your work and looking foolish. It’s ironic that she initially stated she wanted her tour to be about the music but now every headline is about her doing something even more immature-.
She chopped off her long brown locks to be taken more “seriously.” So what’s going on now?
She honestly just needs to stop.
