Last year, during a Q&A with fans at the Denver Comic Con, actor Wil Wheaton gave a fantastic response to a little girl who asked if he was called a nerd at school. Although it has been on YouTube since July, the video is just now getting attention.

The video suddenly has over 500,000 views. Wheaton is asked by the girl, “When you were a kid, were you called a nerd? And if so, how did you deal with it?”

Wheaton gave an emotional response, noting that no one should have to apologize for liking school and enjoying reading and not liking sports. He said that you have to understand that the insults aren’t about you, but rather about the person saying them.

“Maybe one of their parents is really pushing them to be a cheerleader or a baseball player or an engineer or something that they just don’t want to do,” Wheaton said, notes WTVR. “So they take that out on you because they can’t go out and be mean to the person who’s actually hurting them.”

Wheaton, who appeared on Star Trek: The Next Generation and frequently does The Big Gang Theory, told the little girl that it “absolutely gets better as you get older.” That earned an applause from the audience.
