Zoey and Joel try their hand on having a long distance relationship, since Joel has to relocate to Los Angeles for the next six months. Tom tells Zoey that there’s probably going to be trouble in paradise because according to statistics 75% of couples with long-distance relationships break up. Tom begs Zoey to convince Joel to stay in town, not just for his happiness, but for Zoey as well. Not wanting to accept her fate, Zoey tries her best to make it work with Joel. They have Skype dates, make plans to visit one another despite all obstacles, and yet the two still break up. This is because at the end of the episode, Joel is offered a lifetime opportunity in London for the summer. As much as Zoey wants Joel to stay with her in Bluebell, she knows that it would be selfish of her to rob him of this opportunity. The two part ways due to the direction their respective career takes them. Zoey breaks the news tearfully to everyone via accepting Joel’s award for winning Bluebell’s Man of the Year, which Brick obsesses over trying to win throughout the episode.

Meanwhile, our golden couple from Season 1, Lemon and George, team up to get ownership rights of Fancy’s from Lilianne. Enlisting the help of Wade, Lemon and George are successful in chasing Lilianne out of town for a brief period, but as the two spend quality time with one another, they remember why their relationship did not work out. The two simply cannot stand being alone in the same room with one another because they can never agree on anything. Needing a buffer to maintain order, the town folks of Bluebell take turns to make sure Lemon and George are never left alone together. When the big day arrives for the grand opening of Fancy’s, Lilianne sends a lawyer (the same lovely lady from Zoey’s and Joel’s previous lawsuit) to serve Lemon and George. Having enough evidence to put the two away, Lemon and George steps down from being owners of Fancy’s and the ownership goes back to Lilianne until Vivian scares her away with some threats, leaving Lemon and George as the official owners of Fancy’s once again. The accidental hook up that occurs between the two will definitely ripple into future episodes, but that’s Bluebell for you – complicated.
