The second round of battles continued on The Voice with more intense competitions and Chris Martin as a celebrity guest mentor for all four coaches. This round of battles features very similar rules the original battle rounds but the contestants must chose their song together and each coach has one steal.

Starting off the night was Team Blake, who paired up Biff Gore and Sisaundra Lewis. The two powerhouse singers took on the classic “It’s A Man’s, Man’s, Man’s World” by James Brown. Usher started off the comments by saying that he knows how hard it is to pull off this single and Shakira added that Gore’s voice is timeless. Levine said that both vocalists had the ability to feel the song that they are performing. Shelton was left with an impossible choice but decided to advance Lewis to the next round of the competition.

The next battle was between Team Shakira’s Ddendyl going up against Deja Hall. The girls decided to perform “Say Something.” Levine started off the comments by saying that the song started out on The Voice and he is proud to be a part of this show. Shelton added that Ddendyl was so artistic and Hall was very open and honest with her performance. Usher added that both vocalists did very great and the decision comes down to whom Shakira wants to invest in. Shakira decided to have Hall move forward to the playoff rounds. Shakira also moved Kristen Merlin as well to the next round of playoffs in a battle that was not shown.

Team Usher had the last battle and paired up Stevie Jo and Morgan Wallen. The guys performed “Story of My Life” by One Direction. Levine said that men performed this song that is sung by boys but it on stage. Shelton added that he really enjoyed Jo’s technique. After much discussion, Usher decided to have Jo moved forward to the next round in the competition.

The Voice will be back on Monday and Tuesday next week.
