The 18th annual Webby Awards, celebrating internet achievments, were announced ranging in categories including celebrities, groundbreaking tech companies, games and mobile apps.

According to CBS News organizations with the most nominations were Vice Media with eleven, The New York Times with ten, and Google Inc. with nine. Celebrities included Beyonce and Ellen Degeneres, and Pharrell’s 24-hour video for the Oscar nominated song “Happy” for viral online videos.

Interestingly, Vice Media started in 1994 as a punk webzine and has since expanded into a leading global youth media company with bureaus in over 30 countries. Vice operates Vice.com, the world’s premier original online video destination, an international network of digital channels, a television production studio, a magazine, a record label, an in-house creative services agency and a book-publishing division.

The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences announced the nominees on April 8. The academy will choose regular award winners and the public will also have a chance to cast their votes on the Webby People's Voice Awards website. Winners will be announced on April 29.
