A&E announced on Monday that drama series Bates Motel had been renewed for a third season.
The third season will be 10 episodes long and production is set to start later in the fall, reports Deadline. The Psycho prequel series stars Freddie Highmore as the iconic Norman Bates, while Vera Farmiga plays his mother.
The season premiered back in March and has been doing decently well in the ratings for a cable drama. The second season has managed to improve upon the ratings slightly over the first season.
Bates Motel's inaugural season averaged about 3 million viewers with Live+ factored in. The premiere episode for season two drew 4.6 million viewers in Live+7. The drama also is A&E's top performer in the advertiser-important 18-49 demographic.
TheWrap reports David McKillop, A&E executive vice president and general manager said, "The incredible writing team and talented 'Bates Motel' cast have made this series one of the most compelling original dramas on television."
McKillop added, "The brilliant twist and turns of the past two seasons keep its loyal fan base coming back for more."
