The Angels battling coach, Don Baylor will undergo surgery Tuesday for a freak accident that occurred during the ceremonial first pitch Monday. Baylor suffered a fractured right femur on opening night for the Angels against the Mariners.
While catching the pitch from the former outfielder Vladimir Guerrero, Baylor was injured and taken to the UC Irvine Medical Center immediately reported USA Today. The former Angels player was tested and evaluated before it was declared he would undergo surgery for the injury the following day.
Baylor and Guerrero are the only two league MVP’s in history according to ESPN.
Prior to being announced as the new batting coach, Baylor had played for the Angels from 1977 – 1982. He was the manger for the Colorado Rockies, earning the NL Manager of the Year n 1995. He later went on to earn his 500th career win in 2000 with the Cubs.
In 2010, a similar injury occurred at Angel Stadium when Kendrys Morales jumped on the plate and as a result shattered his right ankle.
