The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will be without one of their star players for six to eight weeks.
Angels' outfielder Josh Hamilton injured his left thumb sliding head first into first base Tuesday in Seattle. The Associated Press reports that an MRI revealed that he completely tore a ligament in the thumb and will be examined Friday to see whether or not surgery is needed to repair the ligament.
This is Hamilton's second year with the Angels. He did not have much success in his first year with the club in 2013 after signing a $125 million, five-year contract. He had a batting average of .250, which is the lowest of his career, 21 home runs and 78 RBIs, according the AP.
Hamilton was off to a great start this season before this injury. According to CBS Sports, he had batting averages of .444, .545 and .741 in the three series he has played in this season with two home runs and two doubles.
Hopefully once his thumb heals Hamilton can continue to have the success he has had so far this season and live up to the contract the Angels signed him to a couple of years ago.
