Acclaimed actresses Anika Noni Rose, (Dream Girls), Mekhi Phifer (Dawn of the Dead), and Whoopi Goldberg (The Color Purple) are to star together in Lifetime’s original movie A Day Late and a Dollar Short, based on a New York Times bestseller.

According to Play Bill, the story follows the struggle of a mother (Goldberg) trying desperately to get her family back together before she dies. The book’s author, Terry McMillan, wrote such works as Waiting to Exhale and How Stella Got Her Groove Back.
Tony Award Winner Rose tells US Weekly, "The women in A Day Late and a Dollar Short are smart and forward-thinking and have room for other people's brains as well, that's a framework for incredible things to happen”
NY Daily News notes the actress, 41, has expanded her career exponentially recently, and has taken on multiple genres including television, film, and Broadway. She just received outstanding reviews about her role in the revival of the play Raisin in the Sun.
“The good news is that it offers hope to our younger people to see how far we’ve come, “says Rose.
The Lifetime movie also stars Ving Rhames, Kimberly Elise, and Tichina Arnold. It airs April 19.
