Jon Bon Jovi broke the ribbon on a housing complex on Tuesday. The singer is helping to fund low-income housing in Philadelphia.
Bon Jovi told the Associated Press in an interview before the official ceremony, "This is not a handout, it's just a hand up. This opportunity for them is special and it's not easy to come by."
Bon Jovi was at the dedication ceremony for the building, according to Ultimate Classic Rock. The 55-unit JBJ Soul Homes are now open in the Francisville neighborhood.
The opening of the facility is part of an ongoing initiative to create housing for low income citizens in Philadelphia. Financed by private and public funds, the four-story building is the newest effort from an organization called HOME.
Project HOME is a nonprofit organization that stands for Housing, Opportunities, Medical, and Education. This year is the agency’s 25th anniversary helping people in need. Project HOME co-founder Sister Mary Scullion says that JBJ Soul Homes takes their work “to a whole new level.”
Bon Jovi has previously supported Philadelphia’s less fortunate, and participated in efforts to rebuild row houses in north Philadelphia.
