As more details about the man who has accused X-Men director Bryan Singer of sexual abuse come out, attorney Marty Singer has said that the stories are all fabrications. If the suit is dismissed, Marty Singer says he will file a lawsuit against the accuser.
Michael Egan filed a lawsuit on Wednesday, claiming that he was sexually abused repeatedly by Singer at lavish Hollywood parties in 1999. He claims that alcohol and drugs were involved, as well as other men.
Egan later held a press conference Thursday, in which he claims he went to the LAPD in 2000, but nothing happened. He also said that he and his mother went to the FBI. An FBI spokesperson told Fox News that someone was prosecuted and investigated in 2000, but declined to give further details.
“However, the suggestion that the FBI ignored evidence involving the sexual victimization of a child is ludicrous,” the spokesperson added. “The FBI vigorously pursues all allegations involving the sexual abuse of minors and, pursues prosecution when evidence of such crimes is brought to its attention.”
One of the mysteries of the situation is a 2000 lawsuit filed by Egan that named hosts of similar parties, but completely ignored Singer’s name. According to TMZ, Egan got a default judgement that awarded him $2 million, but since the men named in the suit left the U.S., he got almost nothing. One of the men named in the suit is Marc Collins-Rector, who is a registered sex offender and pleaded guilty to child sex trafficking, notes THR.
As for why this is coming out now, Egan claims that he tried to forget about the Singer incident by abusing alcohol and only recently became sober.
Following Egan’s press conference, attorney Marty Singer issued a statement to Starpulse and other media outlets that reads in part, “The claims made today about Bryan Singer are completely fabricated. We look forward to our bringing a claim for malicious prosecution against Mr. Egan and his attorney after we prevail.”
Marty Singer blasted the press conference, adding, “Attorneys who try cases don't hold press conferences.”
Singer was supposed to be at Wondercon in Anaheim, but has reportedly pulled out. He is supposed to be promoting his latest effort, X-Men: Days of Future Past.
