Bubba Watson, the odd-swinging lefty, earned his second green-jacket today at Augusta. He finished the tournament -8 par, three shots ahead of youngster Jordan Spieth and Sweden’s Jonas Blixt, leaving the audience with no drama to speak of.
This marks Watson’s second Master’s Championship in the past three years. He becomes the second fastest ever to win two green-jackets (six attempts). That puts him in the same category as PGA Tour Legend Arnold Palmer.
On Saturday Bubba struggled mightily finishing with a 74 on the day. However the field did not step up and capitalize on Sunday.
20-year-old Jordan Spieth was an amateur only 18-months-ago, and was the surprise of the tournament as he looked to become the youngest Master’s Champion ever, notes USAtoday. Going into the final round today he was tied for the lead and paired with Watson.
After a superb front-nine, he simply could not keep up with Bubba. Spieth shot a 72 on the day as opposed to Watson’s 69, for that all important three shot difference, according to CBSsports.
As Bubba Watson walked down the 18th-fairway with victory in his back-pocket, one thing became very clear: This guy is an immense fan-favorite. His style, his quirkiness and his personality all fit the part.
With Tiger Woods absent from the tournament and Phil Mickelson struggling through injury, Bubba Watson once again staked a claim as the future of the PGA Tour.
