Connie Britton, who is known for her roles on Friday Night Lights and American Horror Story has been named a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Development
Program.
The news broke on Wednesday that Britton, who is currently staring on ABC's Nashville would become the tenth ambassador to the United Nations. Britton is not the only celebrity helping good causes she joins Antonio Banderas and Maria Sharapova, who are also good ill ambassadors, Entertainment Weekly reported.
During his ambassadorship Britton will be focusing her time and education on decreasing poverty with an emphasis on women's issues.
UNDP Director for External Relations Michael O’Neill, spoke about Britton and her upcoming work with the UN. “We are thrilled to have Connie Britton join UNDP’s efforts to fight poverty worldwide. Connie is passionately committed to humanitarian causes and she will be a great partner for UNDP, helping us raise awareness of development issues amongst the American and global public," said O'Neill.
Britton is also thrilled to be joining the UN as an ambassador and spoke about her plans working with the United Nations, UN News Centre reported "In my own travels, I’ve seen many places where people are living in extreme poverty. It’s unacceptable that, in 2014, one billion people live in such conditions, and a full sixty per cent of the chronically hungry in the world are women,” said Britton.
