Comedy Central’s The Daily Show is building up its roster of correspondents. The newest addition is Michael Che, a standup comedian who also works as a writer for NBC’s Saturday Night Live.
Che will join host Jon Stewart and the rest of the Daily Show news team in June, once he finishes the current season at SNL, reports Entertainment Weekly. He is the second new correspondent for the show, which hired Jordan Klepper in March, after John Oliver left.
The comedian was named one of Rolling Stone’s 50 Funniest People of 2013, reports The Hollywood Reporter. He won the New York’s Funniest Stand-up at the New York Comedy Festival in 2012 and has appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers recently. Che also just filmed a Comedy Central special that will air on June 6 and has appeared on the network’s @midnight series with Chris Hardwick.
The Daily Show has really become the SNL of cable, with its veterans taking on bigger challenges when they leave the show. Oliver has taken on an HBO series that premiered last night, while Stephen Colbert has gone from his own Comedy Central show to replacing David Letterman in 2015. The Office stars Steve Carell and Ed Helms also got their start on The Daily Show.
