The Detroit Tigers snapped a 10-game losing streak to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim by beating them 5-2 on Saturday.
American League Cy Young winner Max Scherzer earned his first win of the season in seven innings of work, allowing one run and striking out nine batters. This included three against Mike Trout and two while facing Albert Pujols, according to ESPN.
Trout struck out in all four of his at-bats, as reported by Click on Detroit.
J.B. Shuck and Pujols each hit solo home runs for the Angels to contribute their only runs of the day. The Angels' hitting was otherwise nonexistent.
The Tigers were led in hitting by Nick Castellanos and Victor Martinez, who each hit home runs. Castellanos drove in two runs with a 1-for-4 effort, and Martinez hit 2 for 2 with a run batted in. Austin Jackson hit 2 for 3 with a run batted in from a sacrifice fly.
C.J. Wilson took the loss on the mound for the Angels, allowing four runs in five innings. Three of them were earned, but Brennan Boesch committed an error that allowed Miguel Cabrera to reach base.
