Donnie Wahlberg is opening up about his engagement to Jenny McCarthy, which she announced on ABC’s The View on Wednesday.

Wahlberg proposed this past weekend with McCarthy’s 11-year-old son, Evan, helping him out. He explained he had plans to do it in a more romantic setting but he did it when he felt, in his heart, that the timing was perfect.

"I just went with my heart. I had these other plans of being on a boat or in some spectacular romantic location, but we were having a good time with Evan and I thought, 'This is the time to do I,' " he told People.

While on The View, McCarthy told the audience he had Evan hold up separate cards that read “Will you marry me?” on them.

“I of course said yes. And in that moment, Evan yelled, 'I have another dad! I have another dad.' And it was just—it made all of us cry," she said.

Wahlberg went on to say he knew the yellow sapphire engagement ring he gave her was “the perfect ring” when he saw it.

Now that he planned out a perfect proposal, don’t expect him to get too involved in wedding plans. “Isn't the bride supposed to do that?" he asked.
