On Wednesday afternoon it was announced that Drake will host this year’s ESPY awards this July for ESPN.
According to MTV, the official ESPY account took to twitter announcing Drake as the host of its 22nd televised event. Each year ESPY praises the athletic prowess of individuals and teams, and has welcomed hosts like Justin Timberlake, Samuel L. Jackson, and most recently Jon Hamm.
Drake accepted the title graciously, tweeting, “Honored to be this year’s @ESPYS host @espn 7.16.2014 #ESPYS #NWTS.”
The Hollywood Reporter notes that the 27 year old actor/rapper surely is the right candidate for the job, as an avid sports fan and member of the executive committee of his hometown NBA team the Toronto Raptors. In January, Drake took on a different hosting gig on Saturday Night Live where he performed in hilarious skits, and as the musical guest.
With his world tour ending, Drake will have time to prepare for the July 16th event. It will take place at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, airing on ESPN at 9pm EST.
