New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning injured his left ankle in the Giants' last regular season game in 2013, and he was taken out of the game. He will undergo surgery on his affected ankle and sit out for six weeks as he waits for it to heal.
According to Newsday, Manning has started 151 consecutive regular season games as the Giants' quarterback.
This marks the longest active streak in the NFL and the third-longest all-time streak. He trails Peyton Manning and Brett Favre, who holds the record with 296 consecutive starts. Manning will have his first surgery in his 10-year career.
If Manning's surgery timetable goes according to plan, he will be ready to join the Giants for the first organized team activities on May 28. He will have to miss some of their offseason workouts though since they begin on April 21, according to ESPN.
Manning will look to put his frustrating 2013 season behind him as he regains his health and learns a new offensive scheme under recently hired coordinator Ben McAdoo.
