Stephanie Madsen, a 27 year old from Littleton, Colorado, entered and won the 2014 CoverGirl Bombshell contest.
Bombshells all across the nation submitted their best “selfie,” in the hopes of winning a dream prize of $10,000 cash and a VIP trip to the Ellen DeGeneres show. But, Stephanie’s photo stood out among the rest.
Stephanie lives by the motto “bald is beautiful,” and Ellen seemed to agree. Her photo was a simple headshot, consisting of lightly done makeup and a beautifully bald scalp. Albeit simple, the photo was a powerful statement – not only for cancer survivors like she, but also to remind women what beautiful really means.
Stephanie is the author of Derailing My Diagnosis, where she documents every detail of her personal battle against large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the cervix. Her outlook on the experience is as rare as her diagnosis. She credits God for the love and joy that she has in her soul, and she knows her miraculous story could not be shared without the help of her prayer army. People from all over have reached out, whether they can relate to Stephanie or not.
Stephanie has shared her story through radio shows, magazines, The Huffington Post, and now The Ellen DeGeneres show. With the help of Ellen DeGeneres, Stephanie was able to jet set to Los Angeles with her husband, Matt, by her side to receive a front row seat at the taping of her show.
What was already an unforgettable experience became even more memorable when she was called to sit in the infamous chair for herself. Before she knew it, Stephanie was on primetime television sharing her story once more with the world. Her eyes widened and filled with disbelief as an oversized $10,000 check was presented to her from Ellen. The money will be used to lighten their load of medical bills and encourage Stephanie to keep sharing her unbelievable journey with the world.
