In her songs, Dolly Parton sings often about her birthplace. She is proud to be a Tennessee girl from the Smoky Mountains. In an interview with the Celebrity Cafe, we asked Dolly Parton how the area shaped her. Could she be who she is if she would have been born somewhere else.

I’m proud to be from the Mountains. I can’t be prouder than to be a Smoky Mountains girl. There is something about these hills that have a sound. So many people came from the old wold. Flavours from Scotland and Ireland. The Welsh Flavours. England great old songs… I really do think my vocal style, especially when I sing the old country songs, is part of the mountains. I think that I’m part of that old sound.

It looks like that to fully understand who Dolly Parton is, you will have to come to her hometown of Sevierville, TN and see by yourself. Here is five things to do for the hardcore Dolly Parton fans. And even the ones who are not.

1) Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede

Dolly Parton is not only a singer. She is also a businesswomen. She owns Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede, a dinner theatre located in Pigeon Forge, just next to Sevierville.

While you eat (without utensils!) your huge rotisserie chicken that comes with hickory smoked barbecue pork loin, a creamy vegetable soup, corn on the cob and herb-basted baked potato served by an extremely smily and hard working staff, you can enjoy the spectacular show.

The performance relies on a friendly North Vs South competition during a Wild West revue that includes Horse riding competitions, pig and chicken races and singing in a funny ambiance. The audience is invited to cheer for their team and some are invited to come down to the stage to participate.

The show ends with a big musical where Dolly Parton sings on a giant screen.

They make Dolly's favorite Slaw Dog. For less than two bucks a piece, it is your quickest and cheapest way to Dolly Parton’s heart and mind.

3) Dollywood

Yes, Dolly Parton is a great business woman. Dollywood amusement park is the pinnacle of her non-singing ventures.

Nested at the feet of the Smoky Mountains, Dollywood offers a truly unique setting. The natural decor is part of the park. The rides climbs on the hills and offer a spectacular backdrop. Most them park are build on flat ground. At Dollywood, you have to waves around the hills to go from one part of the park to the other.

Roller coasters, water raft ride, zip line and various other rides will appeal to the thrill seeker. The brand new FireChaser Express, with a minimum height requirement of only 39 inches, aims to be a “first time” coaster for parents and children to ride together while celebrating firefighters and every day heroes. We where at the park when Dolly Parton herself launched the new ride.

Dollywood is so much more than an amusement park with traditional rides. Dollywood features traditional crafts and music, a narrow gauge steam train, glass blower demonstration, theatres, the Southern Gospel Museum and Hall of Fame and, most importantly, "Chasing Rainbows" Dolly Parton museum.

4) Good Golly Miss Dolly Tour

The Good Golly Miss Dolly Tour is not for everyone. It is a very specific tour that will appeal to the Dolly Parton fanatics. Beginning at the Dolly Parton statue on Sevier County courthouse in downtown Sevierville, you will spend two to three hours driving all across the county to see the whens and wheres of Dolly Parton’s life in Sevierville. Many places do not exist anymore. For instance, you will see where her small Tennesse Mountain cabin house she grew in was, but not the house itself. It is however interesting to see everything you know about her putting into context and understand how isolated the area was and imagine how difficult the life must have been at the time.

The Good Golly Miss Dolly Tour is operated by Tennessee Express Tours. You can call and make a reservation directly with Ruth Miller at 1-800-638-8687 - tnexpresstours.com/
