Former Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly will undergo chemotherapy and radiation treatment next week as he continues to battle sinus cancer.

According to the Associated Press, on Tuesday, Dr. Peter Costantino of Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, outlined the plan for Kelly’s treatment.

On the team’s website, the Bills noted that the longtime quarterback will receive chemotherapy along with concurrent daily radiation therapy treatments. The chemo will last about three to six weeks and the radiation is expected to last six.

Because this will be the first time Kelly is receiving chemotherapy or radiation, Costantino believes that the treatment regimen has a good chance of successfully impacting the cancer.

Kelly retired in 1996 after 11 seasons with the Bills. He is the most successful QB in the franchise’s history with a passing record of 35,467 yards and 237 touchdowns. In addition, Kelly led the team to four straight Super Bowl appearances and six divisional championships

The Hall of Fame quarterback announced his bout with cancer last June.
