Formula One Legend Michael Schumacher, who has been in a coma for months, is showing “moments of consciousness," according to his manager.

The Guardian noted that Sabine Kehm issued a statement on Friday updating the public about the former driver’s condition.

“Michael is making progress on his way. He shows moments of consciousness and awakening. We are on his side during his long and difficult fight, together with the team of the hospital in Grenoble, and we remain confident."

The Sydney Morning Herald stated that the retired racing driver has been in the hospital since a skiing accident and after two surgeries to remove life-threatening blood clots, was placed in a medically induced coma.

Back in December, Schumacher was skiing in the French Alpine resort of Meribel when he fell down a slope and hit his head on a rock. Doctors believe the only reason he survived the accident at all is because he was wearing a helmet.

The 45-year-old German is the most successful driver in Formula One history. He is a seven-time champion and has driven for Italy’s Benetton and Ferrari teams during his career.
