Fox is turning to the Bible for its next event series. Nazareth will focus on Jesus’ early life growing up. Gladiator writer David Franzoni will look at the years that the New Testament does not cover.
Nazareth will be produced by FX Productions and Entertainment One, reports Entertainment Weekly. Franzoni will executive produce alongside Jamie Campbell and Joel Wilson of Eleven Films and Bob Cooper of Landscape Entertainment.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is part of Landscape’s overall deal with the network. The company also has a deal with eOne.
Farzoni’s other credits include Amistad and King Arthur. He was nominated for an Oscar for Gladiator’s script and did take home a Best Picture Oscar as a producer on the Ridley Scott film.
For Fox, this is the latest miniseries, following May’s 24: Live Another Day and the upcoming Gracepoint and Wayward Pines. It is the latest Biblical-themed project since The Bible became a massive hit for The History Channel. NBC is working on Mark Burnett’s follow-up, A.D.: Beyond The Bible.
