The first episode of Fargo, FX’s 10-hour mini-series based on the acclaimed 1996 film by Joel and Ethan Coen, got off to a decent start for the cable network in the ratings.

While the first airing of the premiere episode only drew 2.65 million viewers in total, the network aired the episode several times. The combined total for the night was 4.1 million viewers, notes The Hollywood Reporter.

Breaking the numbers down by the demographics, Fargo drew 1.02 million in the 18-49 group, reports Variety.

This is lower than other recent launches for FX, including The Americans, which started with 3.219 million viewers. However, The Americans’ second season premiere drew only 1.9 million viewers. (That was still renewed for a third season.)

Fargo is set in the same Midwestern world as the 1996 film of the same name, which earned the Coen Brothers an Oscar for Original Screenplay. The series version stars Billy bob Thornton and Martin Freeman. The Coens are executive producers on the project.
