Georgia men’s basketball coach Mark Fox was given a two-year contract extension on Wednesday.

Fox has been with the Bulldogs for five years. The contract extension means that he’ll be with the team through the 2017-18 season. Financial terms of the deal haven’t been finalized yet. Fox had a annual salary of $1.7 million on his current contract, according to the Associated Press.

''This was a really good year,'' Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity said. ''It didn't meet quite all the expectations that we wanted, from an NCAA standpoint. It sets the table for a big year next year, and there's a lot of momentum building for that and we think this is the right thing to do at this time.''

The Bulldogs were 20-14 this season. It’s the 12th season of 20 or more wins in school history. They finished in a tie with Kentucky for second in the SEC with a 12-6 conference record. The Bulldogs didn’t make the NCAA tournament, and lost to Louisiana Tech in the second round of the NIT. Fox has a SEC record of 40-44 and an overall record of 85-77 while with Georgia, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

''As we move forward and continue to recruit and develop young men who can compete for championships, this is a great step to aid in the process,'' Fox said in a statement. ''The next goal is to remain successful and to move that success to another level through scheduling, recruiting, the commitment of our young people and the help of our administration.''

Georgia will have 11 of 13 letterman and four of five starters returning next season.
