After many How I Met Your Mother fans had such a negative response to the series finale on Monday, it’s clear that the producers of How I Met Your Dad might be a little nervous that the spin-off may be in danger. The star, Frances Ha actress Greta Gerwig promised that the pilot and the series, if it gets picked up, will be different from HIMYM.
Gerwig’s series is will start with a divorce, as her character Sally realizes that her soon-to-be-ex wasn’t the right man for her. HIMYM creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas will be writing the pilot with Emily Spivey.
The actress told Us Weekly that HIMYD will obviously be different, as it takes the story from a woman’s perspective.
“When the premise of the show is that it's a young man looking for his true love, it's a very different feeling than a young woman looking for her true love,” Gerwig explained. “Craig and Carter are making it too, and Emily Spivey is so funny and great. She wrote for SNL for a long time, and wrote the show Up All Night, and I'm in love with her.”
Gerwig said that she loved the HIMYM finale, but admitted that she wished the Mother didn’t die.
If CBS orders HIMYD to series, it could begin as soon as this fall. The pilot will be made in Los Angeles, but will shift to New York for subsequent episodes.
