Fans of How I Met Your Mother expressed their love – and hate – for the highly anticipated end of the series, but no one had more emotion invested in the nine season run than the cast and creators, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas.
According to MTV, many fans took to Twitter to express the tears they shed, the shock they experienced, the anger when they learned the mother died, and the sadness to see the end of an era.
Regardless of how the fans felt, the cast and creators were nothing but grateful for the experience they had filming the legen – wait for it – dary series.
Creator Craig Thomas wrote:
We wrote a comedy with dramatic elements till the very end. Thanks for taking that ride with us. #HIMYM

Carter Bays, co-creator of HIMYM, felt the same as Thomas:
Thank you to #HIMYM fans everywhere for the amazing loyalty and team spirit. You guys are the absolute bestest. Highest of fives to you all.

As for the cast, Cobie Smulders told Us Weekly at the screening of Captain America: Winter Soldier she was happy with the ending.
"The coolest thing [about the finale] is that there’s scenes within this episode that we shot during the pilot of our show nine years ago. It’s amazing that we’ve been able to come full circle," she said.
Josh Radin showed his appreciation on Twitter:
Been so overwhelmed in the best way by all the HIMYM love. Beyond grateful to have been a part of a show that's meant so much to people.

Neil Patrick Harris joined in with:
To all who helped create #HIMYM, well played. To all who enjoyed watching it, I respectfully request the highest of fives. #thanks

Finally, the mother herself, Alyson Hannigan, spoke up with a sweet and simple message:
Good times, yeah?
