James Franco apparently tried to hook-up with an 18-year-old Scottish girl who was in New York to see him perform Of Mice And Men. The 35-year-old actor thought he was talking to her privately using Instagram, but the girl posted the entire conversation online.

Lucy Clode chronicled her trip to New York on Instagram, posting videos and selfies on Tuesday while she waited outside the Broadway theater where Franco was performing. As The Daily Dot points out, in one video with Franco, he tells her to tag him. She did that in the next post, a selfie with him behind her.

Franco responded by following her on Instagram. During an initially private conversation, she gives the actor all the important details - where she’s from, where in NYC she’s staying, that her 18th birthday is in May, etc.

These DMs show Franco asking for her number and if he should rent a room. Clode responds, “April fools was an hour ago though.” She turns him down, adding, “I’ll come back when I’m 18.” The conversation heads to texting and Franco even sends her another selfie with “Lucy” written on a piece of paper.

Franco asked her to keep it quiet, but in the era of over-sharing, she didn’t. She told a friend, who then posted screenshots on imgur and Reddit.

Those screenshots are now gone from imgur, but Clode’s Instagram videos survive. Franco also responded to the controversy, tweeting, “I'M NOT! I HOPE PARENTS KEEP THEIR TEENS AWAY FROM ME. Thank you.”

Even if the whole thing is fake, one thing is true - Clode gained a lot of followers on Instagram. She’s up to 8,300.
