Joan Rivers is known for pushing the envelope and joking about some pretty risqué topics, but her latest joke has caused the victims of Ariel Castro to demand an apology.

She first made the joke that Castro’s captors Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight had more room in the room they were held captive in than her daughter, Melissa Rivers, had in her Malibu, Calif. guest room.

“Those women in the basement in Cleveland had more space,” she said, Daily News reports.

Attorneys for the women called the joke “shocking and disappointing." After being freed on May 6 after more than a decade of isolation, “They now have to endure this, which is a new low, and we believe a sincere apology is warranted.”

But Rivers refused to apologize, telling TMZ on Wednesday, "They got to live rent free for more than a decade."

She continued to say, "One of them has a book deal. Neither are in a psych ward. They're ok. I bet you within 3 years one of them will be on Dancing with the Stars,” adding "The TV the guy gave them must not have had SNL."
