Kansas University star freshman center, Joel Embiid, has officially announced that he is entering the 2014 NBA Draft.
According to The Kansas City Star, Embiid stated at a news conference Wednesday alongside Kansas' basketball coach Bill Self that he is entering the NBA Draft after playing in just 28 games in college.
Embiid was having a very good freshman year with the Jayhawks until it was cut short due to injury. He injured his back twice during the season causing him to miss the Big 12 conference tournament and the NCAA tournament. Embiid first hurt his back during the team's game against TCU on Feb. 15 and sat out the teams next game but played three more games after that and injured it again March 1 during their game against Oklahoma State, ESPN reports.
Embiid averaged 11.2 points, 2.6 blocks and 8.1 rebounds per game during the 2013-14 basketball season, according to ESPN.
If he can prove to NBA scouts and general mangers that he is truly healthy, he should be one of the top picks in the draft and can be a solid NBA player if he can stay healthy throughout his career.
