Johnny Depp was subpoenaed while attending the Hollywood premiere of his upcoming movie Transcendence on Thursday night over a murder case.

According to TMZ, who first learned of the strange case, the defendant's lawyer is trying to prove Nancy Lekon is insane.

Lekon was charged with murder for running over a pedestrian back in 2009 while driving in Los Angeles' Skid Row area. The pedestrian she hit with her limo ended up being dragged for a mile before she died.

Her trial date is coming up and the public defender is claiming insanity and Depp ties into the story here. Lekon said that back when she was arrested she had been dating the Blow star and was supposed to meet him just before she ran over the pedestrian.

The defender naturally is hoping Depp would take the stand and of course say that he doesn't know who this lady is, which would help with the insanity defense.

At the end of March, the actor indirectly confirmed he was promoting the same movie. He was asked about a ring on his finger and he dryly responded, "The fact that I'm wearing a chick's ring on my finger is probably a dead giveaway. Not very subtle."
