Johnny Depp will reportedly not have to testify at a murder trial involving a woman who claimed to have dated the Transcendence star.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Depp was served with a subpoena to testify during the trial of Nancy Lekon. She is accused of running over a pedestrian in 2009 with a limousine in Los Angeles’ Skid Row. When she was first arrested, Lekon claimed that she was dating Depp.
Lekon’s public defender is hoping to use the insanity defense. The lawyer believed that, if Depp took the stand, he would say that he didn’t know Lekon, which would help prove that she is insane.
However, TMZ reported on Friday that the prosecution and the defense talked it over and decided that Depp’s services aren’t needed after all. They still believe that Depp has no role in the murder and that he never knew Lekon.
Depp recently appeared in Transcendence, which flopped at the box office. He will next work on Black Mass, in which he plays Whitey Bulger. The Pirates of the Caribbean actor recently got engaged to actress Amber Heard.
