Since the beginning of the How I Met Your Mother escapades, Josh Radnor who plays Ted Mosby, has known exactly how the series was going to come to an end.

When fans were finally introduced to the mother after nine seasons and 200 plus episodes of not so patiently waiting, they took a liking to Cristin Milioti. Radnor wanted to double check that the series was still going to end the same way, despite the quick liking to Milioti, according to Vulture

If you were one of many around the world glued to their couches for the series finale, then you are aware that the mother unfortunately does die and that Ted is given the green light by his kids to ask their Aunt Robin out on a date—years after she and Barney split, chased her job and distanced herself from the gang.

" There are people that wanted Ted and Robin to be together. There are people that thought they didn't work together. So I just feel that part of the divisiveness and part of the anger and also part of the enthusiasm all speaks to something really great,” Radnor said, as reported by ABC News

As every series finale goes, the reactions were split. A large wave of fans were angry that Ted ended up running to Robin, especially since the show alludes to Ted’s relationship with the “mother.”

"I thought the title of the show was always a bit of a fake-out," Radnor said. " Really it was more about these are the crazy adventures and these are the lessons I had to learn before I met your mother."

Radnor continued to say that the show has always been one to yank fans around, so the finale was only fitting. Not only are fans dealing with the twist but they must say goodbye to a show they’ve come to know and love over the past nine years. If that’s not enough—fans had to say goodbye to a group of people they’ve shared laughs, cries and beers with, every Monday night for almost a decade.

"I think when the dust settles people will feel pretty complete," said Radnor.
