The trend of making a final film in the series two movies will continue on with the conclusion of the Divergent series. Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns spoke about splitting the final movie in two Friday morning on CNBC.

Lionsgate/Summit will be releasing the final film in two parts, Allegiant Part 1 will be released on March 18, 2016 and the second film will be released on March 24, 2017. Each film will be produced separately, Variety reported.

Divergent which stars Shailene Woodley and Theo James has done well at the box office both domestically and internationally. To date the film has made $117 million domestically in three weeks and an additional 22 million from international areas.

The second film in the series has already been give the go ahead to start production. Insurgent will open in theaters on March 20, 2015,

Deadline added that Woodley will be reprising her role as Tris for all four films.
