After Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling was allegedly caught on tape making racist comments, Magic Johnson said it was ‘shameful’ and is calling for fans to boycott games.
According to TMZ Sports, the Lakers Legend is calling for African American Clippers fans to boycott the upcoming playoff games until Sterling steps down.
Sterling was allegedly heard asking his girlfriend, V. Stiviano, who is African American and Mexican, why she had to publicly associate with black people. Sterling was allegedly referring to a picture she posted online of herself with Johnson.
The Hollywood Reporter noted that the 80-year-old was heard saying, "Why publicize it on the Instagram and bring it to my games?"
Johnson is not alone in calling for some type of boycott. ESPN reporter Stephen A. Smith thinks that the players should consider not taking the floor for a game against the Golden State Warriors tomorrow.
Several celebrities and religious leaders have also come out and expressed their displeasure over the alleged nine-and-a-half minute racist rant including the Rev. Al Sharpton, who called for Sterling’s removal.
The NBA announced that it is investigating the alleged remarks.
