ABC's Agents of SHIELD has continued to see ratings decline with the latest eposide of the drama only pulling in 4.9 million viewers overall.

This was a 15% decrease from last week, Variety reported but many industry experts thought that following the release of Captain America: The Winter Solider more fans would be tuning into Agents of SHIELD.

With Captain America: The Winter Solider creating a major plot problem for the show, fans have been left wondering how the show could go on. Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen spoke recently about how they plan to move the show forward and when they knew about the Captain America plot twist, The Hollywood Reporter explained.

Tancharoen explained that the producers on SHIELD knew from the start that the plot twist was coming. "From the very beginning. We had the order to do a series about SHIELD and, literally, a day or two after that they said, “Oh, by the way, there’s a movie coming up that will affect your show," said Tanchareon.

The twist does provide problems with the show moving forward but Whedon explained that because the Marvel Universe is one, they will keep the show moving forward base upon what has already happened in the universe. "The great thing about the Marvel Universe is that it’s one universe. So, that’s the thing that makes it exciting. And that’s the opportunity we were given. And so this was obviously something we would have to incorporate. Right away, we saw both the challenges it posed and the opportunities it would bring," said Whedon.
