Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have reunited publicly for the first time since announcing their separation in August. They walked the red carpet together and posed for pictures at New York City's Public Theater opening of The Library.

The first official appearance together in eight months makes a big statement – that they’re on the road to getting back together. The couple, who have been married since 2000, have two children together; Carys and Dylan.

Daily News notes Douglas, 68, has been vocal in the media about wanting to make his marriage work. He told Jay Leno in October he was “hopeful” they would reconcile.

Their marriage has seen some bumps in the road; with Douglas’ battle with throat cancer and Zeta-Jones seeking treatment for bipolar disorder twice since 2012.

Last month, Douglas’ mother Diana Dill, 91, told the Daily News “I knew they would work it out. They’re both gentle people ... They’ve always been very affectionate and easy (with each other).”
