TV host of MSNBC's The Last Word Lawrence O'Donnell was in a car accident over the weekend and subsequently will be taking time off the air to recover.

MSNBC confirmed with The Huffington Post that O'Donnell suffered an injury while on vacation out on the country. He was with his brother while traveling.

The taxi they were in got into an accident and so they flew back to the United States and O'Donnell is currently under the care of doctors in New York, MSNBC said.

According to Deadline, the network released a statement explaining the TV host would be taking time off to recover. "Lawrence will be off from MNSBC for several weeks as he recuperates."

MSNBC added that hosting duties of Last Word will be split between Alex Wagner and Ari Melber for this week. Wagner will host on Monday and Tuesday and Melber will do Wednesday and Thursday.
