Cal Ripken Jr.'s iron man record of playing in 2,632 consecutive games has been passed by Dick Bavetta, an NBA referee.

The 74 year-old Bavetta officiated the New York Knicks-Brooklyn Nets game, his 2,633rd consecutive game, Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden in New York.

There was a special ceremony held before the game to honor Bavetta's accomplishment. He received a commemorative plaque from Rod Thorn, NBA president of basketball operations, according to Yahoo Sports.

Bavetta, who has been calling games since 1975, has had a remarkable career as an NBA official. He is a member of New York City's Baskeball Hall of Fame, has called 270 playoff games, 27 NBA Finals games, three All-Star Games and was the first NBA official called to officiate the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, according to ESPN New York.

ESPN New York also reports that Bavetta has not made up his mind on whether or not he will continue to officiate games after this season.

Whether or not Bavetta continues to officiate NBA games, he will go down as one of the best referees in NBA history.
