NBC has decided not to go forward with Anchorman actor David Koechner's variety sketch program.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, who first learned the news, Koechner would have executive produced and starred in the show. Lou Wallach and Alex Murray and Tim Sarkes were on board to also executive produce.
NBC was looking at two possible variety shows for the next season and on Tuesday picked up Maya Rudolph's instead.
Back in December, NBC put in a pilot order for both and clearly preferred Rudolph's, which will be executive produced by Saturday Night Live's Lorne Michaels.
Rudolph's show hasn't actually been picked up for a whole series, but will instead be shown off as special and could continue from there if enough people tune in. Several former SNL stars will join her for the special, including Andy Samberg and Fred Armisen. Others who will make appearances include Sean Hayes, Kristen Bell, Craig Robinson and Chris Parnell, with Janelle Monae signed on to be the musical guest.
THR notes that Koechner now has had two recent pilots not picked up. He starred in a pilot for A+E Networks' pilot Whitey, which didn't get picked up either.
