Neil Patrick Harris confronted a heckler mid-show during a performance of his Broadway play Hedwig and the Angry Inch on Saturday night.
A woman yelled “I love you, Neil!” during the performance, which caused Harris, who plays a transgender, “I’m doing something up here, ¬motherf–ker!”
The Post’s Barbara Hoffman was on hand to witness the confrontation, and she reported Harris’ reaction to the heckler was met with enthusiastic applause.
Playwright John Cameron Mitchell has told the Wall Street Journal of Harris being cast as the transgender rocker, "He's been America's sweetheart for so long, but he has so many chops and can do so many other things.”
Harris got his start as a teen on Doogie Howser, M.D and he starred as Barney Stinson for nine seasons on How I Met Your Mother.
Mitchell continued of Harris, "his thing is, 'I gotta do something that scares me.' "
This isn’t the first time Harris has spoken directly to the audience, as Mitchell revealed Harris asked an overweight member of the audience who was late, "You couldn't make it on time? You had to order dessert?"
