A documentary called The Dave Clark Five and Beyond: Glad All Over will be airing on PBS on Tuesday.
Some of rock’s finest are in the film. Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Elton John, and Steven Van Zandt are all featured in the movie.
Much is discussed about their 60s, and like The Beatles, the Dave Clark Five appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show. The band, nicknamed the DC5, appeared on the popular show 18 times, more than other influential rock bands.
By today’s standards, they might seem eclipsed by The Beatles, but The Dave Clark Five released 15 consecutive top 20 U.S. singles. Clark is working on a memoir, according to Billboard. It’s likely that the memoir will include the years that the band, including Dave Clark, Lenny Davidson, Mike Smith, Rick Huxley, and Denis Payton, played television shows and larger concerts.
According to the Associated Press, Clark said of playing the larger stadium concerts, "That was the ultimate high, playing live. You feel like the Pied Piper, or a conductor, knowing how to take an audience up or bring them down. You were champion of the world for that one or two hours of the day."
The Dave Clark Five and Beyond: Glad All Over premieres on PBS on April 8.
