The New York Jets and running back Chris Johnson have agreed to a deal.

According to ESPN, league sources have said that the Jets and the former Tennessee Titan agreed to terms on a two-year contract.

Johnson was released by his old team on April 4 and the Jets immediately emerged as a potential suitor for the 28-year-old.

Even though Johnson is on the downside of his career, the team is hoping that he can alleviate some of the burden off veteran running backs Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell.

The former Pro-Bowler was once ranked as the game’s top rusher and after a holdout in 2011, the Titans rewarded him with a four-year, $54 million contract.

However, Johnson’s production declined after the deal was inked and he only managed to pull together 3.9 yards per carry last season, Pro-Football-Reference.com noted.

The Jets still believe that the player formally known as CJ2K can bounce back though and provide a dose of speed to the offense.
