Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps is officially coming out of retirement to compete in an upcoming event in Arizona.

According to The Arizona Republic, Phelps is coming out of a retirement that began after the 2012 London Olympics and returning to competitive swimming for a meet April 24-26.

The 28-year-old’s coach Bob Bowman, told the Associated Press on Monday that Phelps is entered in the 50 and 100-meter freestyles and the 100 butterfly.

"Once he started getting fit, I'm not too surprised he would want to compete," said Bowman. "He's made like that."

The end to his retirement has led many to speculate whether or not Phelps will compete in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

"I think he's just going to test the waters a little bit and see how it goes," his longtime coach said. "I wouldn't say it's a full-fledged comeback."

Phelps is the most decorated Olympian of all time with 22 medals. We'll have to wait and see if he decides to compete in 2016 and adds even more medals to his total.
