Dr. Fitch “Coop” Cooper, played by Peter Facinelli, has decided to leave the Showtime series, Nurse Jackie, after seven seasons.

The former Twilight star caught up with E! News and exclusively told them he was leaving the show to pursue other opportunities.

"You know I've done it for six years," Facinelli said at the launch of Zooey Deschanel's new capsule collection for Tommy Hilfiger. "They've become like a family to me... And I love the character, he is so much fun. But after six years I felt like, well, I'm contracted through seven, I kind of wanted to see what else is out there. And try a new character on for size and try something new."

The 40-year-old has already pursued new acting adventures after shooting a pilot for NBC called Odyssey, a global-conspiracy theory thriller. If picked up, the series will premiere next month.

"I'm really excited to see if that's gonna go," he said.

Facinelli does not know how the writers will write his character off the series, but he did mention he hopes he doesn’t get killed off.

The actor is currently dating his girlfriend, Jaimie Alexander, according to People, and a source said they looked very happy as they danced the night away at Alexander’s thirtieth surprise birthday.
