After several days of tough and unrelenting cross-examination, the prosecutor is the Oscar Pistorius murder trial wrapped up questioning on Tuesday.
The Associated Press reported that chief prosecutor Gerrie Nel said he had no further questions before inviting the athlete to take the blame for fatally shooting his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
"We should blame somebody ... Should we blame Reeva?" asked Nel.
Pistorius disagreed and explained that he was “fearful” for his life and fired the shots because he believed there was an intruder in his home.
The prosecution accused the South African sprinter of lying about what happened on Valentine’s Day 2013 and contends that the Paralympian intentionally killed his girlfriend after the two had an argument. Pistorius, however, maintains that it was an accident and he only shot Steenkamp after he mistook her for a burglar.
CNN noted that defense lawyer Barry Roux ended re-examination by having the sprint runner read a card aloud in which the model said that she loved him. Steenkamp gave the card to the Olympian on the final day of her life.
Pistorius has plead not guilty to murder and weapons charges.
